The purpose of the Accelerated Reader program is to encourage beginning students to become excited about reading, and to assist older students in improving reading skills and comprehension. This program enhances student progress in all academic areas, as reading is the foundation for success in all areas.
Each grade level has a goal set for them. Starting in the third grade and continuing through the eighth grade, the goal affects their reading grade. There is a set amount of books required, or a total amount of points the student is asked to reach each quarter. This amount is based on what the teacher feels is appropriate for the level of the students they teach. The STAR reading program allows the school to assess periodically the reading level and progress of all students. This computer-based program assists the school in working with students to read at or above their current grade level. Happy Reading!
