"Imagine" Contest Winners

Schools throughout the St. Charles area were able to participate in the St. Charles County Library Essay Contest, where students were given this writing prompt: "Imagine you find a big box outside your door with your name on it, what's inside?"   In the Middle School age bracket, Assumption had ten (10) winners.  Congratulations to the following students:  M. Huff, S. Moore, G. Arrowood, C. Doriman, S. Gray, Z. Igo (not available for photo), D. Dang, J. Fesser, L. Roberson, and A. Fontana.  The awards ceremony will be held on November 16th at Spencer Library.

Thank you, Omu!

     Read for the Record is a national program that encourages literacy throughout the nation.  For the 2019 school year, the program selected, Thank you, Omu!,as their reading choice.  The idea is that each school across the nation have guest "readers" read the book to students and then follow-up with an activity based upon the concept of the book.  The Assumption guest readers were our Middle School students.    Thank you, Omu! tells the story of a Nigerian Grandma ("Omu" means "grandma" in  Nigerian) who makes the most delicious stew, whi...

Three ABVM students, Mia Felix, Cooper Lawrence, and Mariah Lewis, respectively, were honored as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in the "What it means to be a Veteran" Contest sponsored by the St. Barnabas Men's Club.   Based on a maximum of 100 words, there were over 80 contestants, all needing to be concise and meaningful in their understanding and value of  veterans.  The awards ceremony was hosted by the Veterans' Museum of O'Fallon at 800 East Elm, a newly designed location for this memorial to veterans.  Several veterans were present at the ceremony, where...
