Robotics at ABVM

Posted on December 11, 2019 in: General News

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) is seen throughout Assumption during the day, however, the ROBOTICS teams actively engage in competitions.  One competition that  Assumption Robotics teams participate in is the FIRST® LEGO® League. This global robotics competition is built around theme-based Challenges to engage children ages 9 to 14 in research, problem solving, coding, and engineering.

Each team had to build and program (code) their robot, and also create a "core values" activity and presentation. Then, each team competed in several qualifying rounds. If they qualified, the team then moved onto the Regional Tournament in January, 2020.

The FIRST Core Values
Innovation: We use creativity and persistence to solve problems.
Impact: We apply what we learn to improve our world.                                                                                            Inclusion: We respect each other and embrace our differences.                                                                          T Teamwork: We are stronger when we work together.

Assumption has five (5) Robotics Teams: Robosaders (5th boys), Junior Genius Robots (7th grade girls), RoboBroncos (6th grade boys), RoboMonsters (5th graders: 1 girl and 7 boys), and Rockin' Robots (6th grade girls).

On December 7, our 5 teams gave their presentation on their chosen activity and also competed in the FLL (First Lego League) Qualifying Rounds at St. Dominic High School.  Schools across the St. Louis region were represented.

With great pride, we say congratulations to all teams, 3 of which placed in the top 10 and 1 which will move to the Regionals in January, "The Rockin' Robots".  They received the following:

Best Robot Performance
(With a top score of 365 in the robot game -  top overall score for the day)

Overall Team Champion Award
(This is the top award at the qualifying rounds and takes into account the team project, presentation, core values activities and scores on the robot game.)

The team received an invitation to compete at the regional event on January 12, 2020 at the St. Louis Community College- Flo Valley.
