Holes is a book written by Louis Sachar, which has also been made into a movie.  This year, our 5th graders journeyed through the story of some boys who are sent to Camp Greenlake for the summer.  In educational circles, it isn’t easy to find books that grab the interest of boys, but Holes accomplishes that!   Of course, the girls enjoy the story of this strange summer camp, as well.     As the class finishes each chapter a discussion ensues regarding plot, setting, characters, and theme.  Through discussion, students realize that attitudes and actions of characters can be viewed in light of appropriate Christian behaviors.As a follow-up to the book, students were asked to develop a diorama which depicts the book.
