Mission Day is an annual event sponsored by Mrs. Ryan and our 8th graders. This year, the mission’s focus was “Heifer International”, an organization whose goal is to end poverty and hunger. ”Heifer” works toward their goal by asking businesses, organizations, schools and individuals to program some activities or a drive to raise money. This money is sent to “Heifer” where pigs, cows, alpaca, chickens, etc. are purchased for families in 21 countries around the world. In addition, “Heifer” educates the families about taking the animal resources to feed themselves (eggs, milk, etc.) and also develop a small business where selling eggs, milk, wool, etc. will help them sustain their livelihood.
This entire week, our students were educated (through prayer services organized and lead by our 8th graders, through movies from “Heifer” and lesson plans about the 21 countries and families from around the world, and through Activities on Mission Day: Pin the tail on the Heifer, Lasso the Heifer, and creating Heifer Masks to wear . Our students on Friday the 16th had Jog-A-Thons and raffles to help raise monies for the program.
Thanks to our students and their families, we raised: $3,164.00
