National Junior Honor Society

The NJHS at Assumption School is a highly selective honor society that promotes appropriate recognition for its students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of:

  • Scholarship
  • Leadership
  • Character
  • Service
  • Citizenship

7th and 8th grade students who have been at Assumption for the two most recent consecutive quarters and meet the minimum cumulative middle school Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement, currently set at 3.800**, are eligible to receive an invitation to complete the NJHS interest packet during 3rd quarter of each school year.

Invitations to complete an interest packet will be sent in January to those who have met the 3.800 cumulative middle school GPA minimum. Interest packets must include a guardian signature, be complete, and submitted by the deadline to be considered for membership into NJHS.

Invitations will be sent home through the mail immediately prior to Christmas Break to those who have met the 3.800 cumulative middle school GPA minimum. In addition to academic excellence, selection for membership is based on exhibited leadership, honorable and admirable character in the classroom, school, and the community. Selection for membership is conferred upon students by an anonymous Faculty Council and based on review and assessment of the candidate’s completed interest packet and review of the student’s records. New members will be inducted during an annual ceremony that takes place near the end of 3rd quarter.

**  GPA will be calculated by averaging the final year letter grade of these core classes: Reading, Writing, Religion, Math, Science, Social Studies and Values/Virtues Education, rounding to the nearest thousandths. The candidate's Middle School cumulative grade will be the average of those GPA's to the nearest thousandth.
