Why Assumption?

A leader in education for over 150 years, Assumption School offers a faith-based, private school education with smaller classroom sizes and tuition assistance. Our rigorous academic program and grading scale, state-of-the-art campus, and safe and nurturing environment offers pre-kindergarten and K-8 students a better education and brighter future.

"We love Assumption and wouldn’t want our son to attend any other school! I am so proud of the young man Quinn is becoming and cherish the friendships we’ve made with other school families. The top-notch curriculum, faculty, and staff make Assumption a truly beautiful community living Christ and bringing Christ to the world."

Amy Rinearson, Parent

With a separate Early Childhood Learning Center featuring a creative curriculum and hands-on X-STREAM (science, technology, religion, engineering, art and math) classroom, our preschool and kindergarten students have the foundation for academic success, and can continue that educational excellence at the elementary school level.

Our test results show that Assumption students consistently exceeded learning expectations in Math and Reading. While at the same time, nationwide averages fell one to two years below the standards. Here’s how we did it! Assumption adopted virtual learning within three days of the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown of Missouri schools. Our certified teachers were able to adapt quickly to teaching in a virtual learning environment in our pre-K-8th grade-classes without any issues.

Come grow with us—all faiths welcome! Assumption School has an 8:1 student-educator ratio, including learning consutants, and transforms each student through the power of faith formation and knowledge. In addition to offering a faith-based, loving environment with weekly Mass and Prayer Service, students have access to 1-1 technology, gifted programs for grades 3-5, STEM, Spanish, and an accelerated STEM Robotics program. Other accolades include:

Certified Teachers
Assumption School teachers are Certified Youth Mental Health First Aiders supported by the National Council for Behavioral Health. Teachers are required to complete the Google Level 1 Education Certification. Some have completed the Google Level 2 Education Certification, and nearly all have the Smart Board Certification.

Leaders in Catholic School Education
Our principal, Jamie Burbridge, has a passion for teaching and has been educationg children at Assumption for the past 11 years prior to taking on this new administrative role. Under her leadership, Assumption will administer the piloted curriculum design process for the Archdiocese of St. Louis using a platform known as CHALK. Assumption has been actively using the curriculum over the past year as a model to be used by all Catholic elementary schools throughout the diocese.

Leaders in the St. Louis Archdiocese
Pastor of Assumption Parish and lead clergy of the school, Father Nick Kastenholz is the head of the Western Vicarate (formerly known as theh St. Charles Deanery), which is comprised of 22 Catholic parishes and 20 schools located in St. Charles, St. Peters, O’Fallon, Dardenne Prairie, New Melle, Cottleville, Wentzville, St. Paul, Old Monroe, Josephville, Portage de Sioux, Troy, Elsberry, Hawk Point and Millwood.

Safe and Secure Environment
School doors lock at 8 a.m. and all guests must check-in through the private foyer entrance – no exceptions! Newly installed window decals blanket our school and new security cameras are coming soon. If an accident happens or a student becomes ill, our school nurse is on duty to assist with minor bumps and bruises, to performing first aid or the use of defibrillators. Assumption has zero tolerance for bullying and abusive behavior. All teachers, employees, and volunteers who interact with students are required to complete background checks and a child abuse prevention program called Protecting God’s Children.

School Therapy Dog
Assumption has a therapy dog named Crusader. He generally visits a classroom 30 minutes per week, but is most often in the Counselor’s office. Therapy dogs have been active in schools for some time. Teachers and administrators have witnessed the effects therapy dogs have on students and themselves. The benefits of having therapy dogs in the classroom/ at school include:

  • Physical benefits: Interaction with therapy dogs has been shown to reduce blood pressure, provide physical stimulation and assist with pain management.

  • Social benefits: A visiting therapy dog promotes greater self esteem and focused interaction with other students and teachers.

  •  Cognitive benefits: It has been empirically proven that therapy dogs stimulate memory and problem-solving skills.

  •  Emotional and mental health benefits: A therapy dog can lift moods in the classroom, often provoking laughter.

Spanish Class
Learning Spanish provides numerous benefits both personally and professionally to our students, and the course is taught to students in 5-8 grades. Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, which makes it an asset for professionals conducting business in Spanish-speaking countries and across borders.
