Three Assumption Patriot Essay Winners Advance to State Competition!
Each year more than 84,000 students in grades 6-8 enter the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Patriot’s Pen Youth Essay Contest for their share in more than $55,000 in state and national prizes and scholarships. The popular essay contest encourages young minds to examine history along with their own experiences in modern American society by drafting a 300-400 word essay expressing their views on a patriotic theme chosen by the VFW’s Commander–in-Chief. The 2022-2023 theme “My Pledge to Our Veteran’s” and it captured a win for three Assumption School students.
Congratulations goes out to Bella Boss, Ben Heckart and Luke Gandolfo, Assumption 8th grade-students, who submitted winning essays through Mrs. Stacy Chassaniol’s Social Studies Class. Bella Boss was awarded first place, Ben Heckart secured second place, and Luke Gandolfo took third place in the essay completion judged by local VFW members.
Each of the student’s essays will advance to the next level of completion for State Review, and if chosen, they will go before a National Review. National winners will receive at least $500, and the first-place National Award is currently $5,000. Best of luck to Bella, Ben and Luke as their essays advance to the next level!
